King Suryavarman II at the peak of the
Khmer empire in the first
half of
12th,
Angkor Wat is probably the best-preserved of the Angkorean temples, with
a central tower surrounded by four smaller towers. The central monument
represents the mythical Mount Meru, the
holy mountain at the centre of the universe, which was home to
the Hindu God Vishnu.
Finally, in the late afternoon, coming to the

Day 2:
SIEM REAP FULL DAY TOUR (by A/C car)
Today, let’s
experience a fullday tour to discover the Angkor Temples Complex.
Morning, continuing visit to the
Angkor Thom (Big Angkor) on
late 12th - early 13th century C.E., is a 3km2 walled and moated royal
cities and was the last capit
al
of the Angkorian empire. There are five entrances (gates) to the city,
one for each cardinal point, and the victory gate leading to the Royal
Palace area. Each gate is crowned with 4 giant faces; first stop for
visiting is The South Gate, then
Bayon - the Angkor's greatest temple.
The giant stone faces of Bayon have
become one of the most recognizable images connected to classic Khmer
art and architecture. There are 37 standing
towers; the best of Bayon are the bas-reliefs on the exterior
walls of the lower level and on the upper level where the stone faces
reside. Proceeding to visit a double terrace wall are
the Terrace of the Leper King and
the Terrace of the Elephants, the walls
display some particularly fine sculpture including the five headed horse
and scenes of warriors and dancers, with deeply carved nagas, demons and
other mythological beings. Afternoon,
you will visit
Thommanon, small, attractive
temple in very good condition, built at the same time as Angkor Wat.
It’s Angkor Wat style is most easily seen in the style of the carved
apsaras and the shape of the tower,
Chaosay
Tevoda, it seems to stand in
partnership with Thommanon but actually was built much later in
Suryavarman II’s rule than Thommanon,
Banteay
Kdei,
Srash Srong.
Then visit
Kravan & especially
Ta Phrom Temple, was a monastery built by Jayavarman VII as a
residence for his mother. Ta Prohm has been controversially left to the
destructive power of the jungle by French archeologists to show how
nature can destroy man's work. It has been largely overgrown by the
jungle and as you climb through the dilapidated stone structures you see
many giant trees growing out of the top of the temple itself.
Ta Prohm
looks as many of the monuments did when European explorers first laid
eyes on them.
Back to hotel and free leisure at night.
Overnight in Siem Reap.

Day 3:
SIEM REAP FULL DAY TOUR (by A/C car)
After breakfast,
continue to discover the Ancient Temples.
Firstly, visit the
Banteay Srei, a
beautiful 10th-century Hindu temple complex about 23 miles north of
Angkor Wat.
The temple consists of low walls surrounding peaked
structures of deep red sandstone. Banteay Srei means "Citadel of Women,"
and it is said that the reliefs on this temple are so delicate that they
could only have been carved by the hand of a woman. The well-preserved
relief carvings on the central buildings depict scenes from ancient
Hindu tales. Completed in 967, Banteay Srei was the only major temple
which was not built for the king; instead it was constructed by one of
king Rajendravarman's counsellors, Yajnyavahara. The temple was
primarily dedicated to Shiva (the southern buildings and the central
tower was devoted to him,but the northern ones to Vishnu) It lies near
the hill of Phnom Dei 25 km (15 miles) northeast of the main group of
temples, where the capital of the time (Yashodharapura) was located.
After that, proceed to visit the
Kbal Spean.
Commonly known as the valley of a 1000 Lingas,
Kbal Spean: is set deep in the jungle to the north east of Angkor. A
45 minute steep walk takes you to the river and waterfalls where
hundreds of phalluses are carved on the riverbed. The waterfall here is
best seen at the end of the rainy season. At the top of the falls are
numerous carved figures and animals This site has only been opened up
to tourism since 1998 and is less crowded than the nearby Phnom Koulen.
This Hindu Pilgrimage site predates Angkor Wat by some 200 years; making
it one the most ancient sites in the region. Kbal Spean is looked after
very well; the waymarked trail is a very attractive route through
atmospheric jungle. The path is steep; with some well maintained steps.
Sounds of birds and wildlife with hundreds of butterflies enhance the
visit.
Back to hotel and free at leisure at night.
Overnight
in Siem Reap.
